International Academy in Belgrade is a specialised NGO for covering the daily life of persons with disabilities, as also of minorites and diversities in the society. Additional it covers sport, health, and supports  the work of journalists and media  in South, East and Central Europe. 

International Academy is monitoring violations  of rights of  minorities, persons with disabilities and diviersties in the society + publish public reactions.

The activities of the NGO are achieved in workshops, seminars and conferences, as also over education-projects and activities. International Academy was participating in different research activities and publications. 

International Academy Belgrade is partner organisation of the International Institute- International Media Center  as also of the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO).

CONFERENCES

Our conference  Persons with Disabilities and the Media: Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities - Improving Reporting in media in Belgrade on 4 and 5 December 2015.

Educators, activists, representatives of relevant NGOs and journalists are meeting on the occasion of this international conference to discuss ways in which media can contribute to improving the position of persons with disabilities, with particular focus on their social and professional needs. The analysis of the current quality of media reports about persons with disabilities will serve as a starting point for identifying responsibilities of the media, as well as opportunities for improvement.

More than 140 participants discussed in two days about this very important topic. The aim of the conference was to pave the way for a wide reflection on the visibility of disabled people in media and their adequate portrayal,  The conference  brought together journalists covering the topic of disabilities in the media, organisations of disabled people, other media professionals and public representatives. The conference covered also the role of new media, especially as computers are widely accepted as instrument for people with disabilities supporting their ADL tasks at home and at work, as also the inclusion of journalists with disabilities into the daily work of media.

During the conference following topics were covered:

- What is the Society Doing to Improve the Life of Persons with Disabitlies

- Reporting in Media about Persons with  Disabilities

- Position of Persons with Disabilities in the Public and how Media can Improve the Picture

- Professional and Social Needs of Persons with Disabilities- Responsibility of Media, Education and Social Security

The conference was organised by International Academy in cooperation with International Academy-International Media Center,  South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO)  South East and Central Europe PR Organisation (SECEPRO), Primary and secondary school with boarding “Milan Petrovic”, Novi Sad, Adria Media Group and in partnership with  Central European Initiative (CEI)

CONFERENCE PARTNERSHIP

International Academy,  is partner of the annual regional South East Europe Media Forum (SEEMF), as also of the annual Commission on Media Policy. In 2016 International Academy co- organised the annual SEEMF and Commission on Media Policy in Belgrade, Serbia,, in 2015 both events took place in Bucharest, Romania, in 2014 in Skopje, Macedonia and in 2013 in Sarajevo, BIH. In 2017 SEEMF and Commission on Media Policy took place in Sofia, Bulgaria.
